Last week, I updated the iOS version on my iPad to 9.2.1. The update, through iTunes, seemed to go fine but when I tried to use it the following morning, the iPad would not respond. Just a black screen ever since. Attempts to force restart (holding sleep/wake and home buttons for 10-15 seconds) don't work. I've also tried restoring and/or updating. iTunes knows that "an iPad" is attached that is in recovery mode, but when I attempt to restore/update it comes back with an error 4014. I've tried all the suggestions I could find around this error and with resetting/restoring/updating. All to no avail. Anyone recover from such a scenario?
If you see error 9, 4005, 4013, or 4014 when you restore your iOS device
When you try to update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, you might see one of these messages in iTunes.
If your iOS device disconnects during the update or restore or if iTunes couldn't tell the device to restore, you might see one of these messages:
- The iPhone [device name] could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (9).
- The iPhone [device name] could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (4005).
- The iPhone [device name] could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (4013).
- The iPhone [device name] could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (4014).
Try these steps to restore your iOS device:
- Install the latest version of iTunes.
- Restart your computer.
- Check for updates to your Mac or PC. If you restart your computer for an update, check for updates again after you restart.
- Try to restore your device using another USB cable.
- Try to restore your device on another computer.
- Force your device to restart.
If you continue to see error 4005, 4013, or 4014 when you try to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, contact us.

What did Apple say when you contacted them about the error code?

Feb 22, 2016 2:20 PM in response to razmee209by joelportillo,Hi Razemee209, I tried the steps noted in that article, but they did not work. I have not contacted Apple about it yet as the iPad is no longer under warranty or covered under Apple Care. I may make an appointment with the Genius Bar later this week/weekend to see if they can help, but thought I'd try my luck here on the forums.
