Q: in which devices can i use iMac as monitor ?

Hi,

 

I have a 21.5-inch, Mid 2014 iMac (iMac 14,4).

 

In the spec i see that i can use it as a monitor via Target Display Mode.

(Use your iMac as a display with Target Display Mode - Apple Support)

 

My question: Can i use iMac as a second monitor for a PC/laptop with Windows/Linux?

 

Is the Target Display Mode limited only to other macs, or any device with a mini display port output using the thunderbolt cable?

    The article you cited is VERY specific about what devices will work in TDM. However to answer your question, "Can i use iMac as a second monitor for a PC/laptop with Windows/Linux?" the answer is maybe. You cannot use TDM for it however there are some third party utilities such as ScreenRecycler. There is another available, however it's name escapes me, perhaps someone else will remember.
