Feb 22, 2016 5:23 PM in response to ilikepeasby Kenichi Watanabe,It's not related to iTunes 12. The iPod has its own onboard software, and that has not been updated in a long time. Try doing a Reset (restart) of the iPod.

Feb 24, 2016 8:24 AM in response to Kenichi Watanabeby ilikepeas,HI Kenichi,
Thanks for getting back to me. I followed the steps in the "how to reset your iPod" guide but that didn't work. Any other ideas? I would prefer to not have to format my whole ipod but I fear that that may be the next suggestion.

Feb 24, 2016 9:32 AM in response to ilikepeasby Kenichi Watanabe,You could do that (a Restore using iTunes), but this problem is less likely to be resolved by a Restore. Since you tried using more than one dock accessory, the cause is more likely to be a hardware problem on the iPod's dock connector. The 30-pin dock connector has separate "pins" for power, data, and audio. My guess is that the pins used for audio signals are no longer working properly (not making a connection). This could be due to wear or damage.
Visually inspect the iPod's dock connector, in case there is some obvious debris, dust accumulation, or corrosion blocking the connection. Also check the dock accessory side, but since you tried two of them, it is more likely that the problem is on the iPod side of the connection.
