IKEA Uppleva TV (first gen, 2013) freezes when switched off

My IKEA Uppleva TV (first gen, 2013) freezes almost every time when I switch the TV off after using Apple TV (I had this issue with all three generations of Apple TV, 2nd, 3rd and 4th). Fyi, Apple TV is still running when I switch off TV. I also saw a freezing issue when switching off Apple TV via remote (standby), but not every time (always the TV is freezing, never Apple TV!).

Sometimes the TV freezes when I switch from HDMI (where my Apple TV resides) to TV (cable, digital). I then have to disconnect power to revive TV again.

When I remove Apple TV from HDMI the TV works like a charm. There seems to be a incompatibility between these two devices. I don’t know who’s to blame...

Any ideas?

  • Apple TV 4, latest iOS update 9.1, 64 GB version on HDMI port no 4, nothing else connected to TV
  • IKEA Uppleva 46 black, 2013

This may not be of any concern for Apple, but maybe other ppl have the same issues and will comment here.

Hi EtaoinShrdlu, did you solve this problem? I have the same problem here, my Uppleva ist restarting all the time. It is connected to AppleTV (3rd generation). Last time I was able to watch Netflix from my Apple TV (yesterday) and today my TV can't start. I left the AppleTV input source on the TV as default and maybe that is the reason why is not starting. (or restarting all the time).

I will appreciate any help.

You should check the settings for HDMI-CEC on the TV and on ATV. On ATV it's called "Control TV and Receiver". On your TV, it will be some sort of Link or Net. Each maker has its own name. I'd start by turning it off on both sides, and see if that clears up the problem. If it's enabled and ATV is on (not sleeping), things will be in a confused state.

Reconnect the HDMI cable at both ends, to be sure there's a good connection.

Try power cycling ATV, in case it's in some funny state.

I have it turned on at both ends. This means that turning ATV on also starts the TV and switches it to the correct HDMI input. But it also means that putting ATV to sleep turns the TV off, no matter what. Not ideal, but that's the deal.
