Q: No Sound Notifications

I recently got an iPhone 5s and I've been having a problem with sound notifications. I take the train to work and on the train I'm disconnected to Wi-Fi. I've noticed that once i get home I don't get any sound notifications. When I receive a text, the ringtone doesn't sound instead it just vibrates. Same for a new email. Even on Snapchat when I'm viewing a snap, the sound won't immediately play unless i press the volume button  Any ideas? I haven't changed any settings or anything. This only seems to happen after I take the train.

iPhone 5s, iOS 9.2.1, null

    Greetings dannyboy322,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

From your post, I understand that the sound on your iPhone isn’t working for some notifications as expected. To troubleshoot this situation, there are two different articles I suggest reading over and working through.

The first article below provides troubleshooting information for not receiving notifications for a specific app.

If you don't see notifications for a specific app

To get notifications, you need to be connected to a Wi-Fi or cellular network. If you’re not getting notifications for a specific app, try these steps:

    1. Make sure that the app supports notifications. Go to Settings > Notifications, select the app, and make sure that Notifications are turned on.
    2. Make sure that you’re signed in to your Apple ID on your iOS device. Go to Settings > iTunes & App Stores and enter your Apple ID and password.
    3. Make sure that Do Not Disturb is turned off. Go to Settings > Do Not Disturb and tap Manual if it's turned on.
    4. If you’ve recently installed an app or restored from a backup, open the app to start getting notifications.

Use Notifications on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

If the issue continues, the next article has information for troubleshooting sound in general on your device.

If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker - Apple Support

    Have a great day!

Solved the problem. The Ring/Silent switch was set to silent. Don't know how it got like that but glad I figured it out
