Feb 22, 2016 4:58 PM in response to ascotsgrannyby Niel,Mac OS X 10.10.3 and newer include Photos, which is intended as a replacement for iPhoto. If you'd like to go on using iPhoto in addition to or instead of switching to Photos, click here and try following the instructions; you'll only be able to do so if you previously got iPhoto from or associated it with the Mac App Store.

Feb 22, 2016 4:59 PM in response to ascotsgrannyby LarryHN,For iPhoto you need the current version 9.6.1 - if you do not keep your software up to date see Can't Update iPhoto because it not available in the App Store
But since iPhoto is not being supported and will quit working with some future OS update this would be a great time to learn Photos and switch to it - it has much better editing, system and iCLoud integration and most people once they learn it prefer it to iPhoto - and when you migrate your iPHoto structure is kept in Photos using albums and folders -- How Photos handles content and metadata from iPhoto and Aperture - Apple Support
