It is NOT iMessage. It is "Messages" No leading 'i'

El Capitan installs "Messages" in the Applications Folder.

Its icon looks like:

It can also be found via the Launchpad with the same icon show above.

You should also be able to find it via Spotlight: Command-Space -> Messages

If you still have iChat then it is something that got copied over from your previous installs. -OR- you made a copy in a folder that OS X did not expect to look inside, and thus did not remove it when installing a newer OS X release that includes "Messages".

Hi,

Where is iChat ?

If it is not in Applications (loose) then it will not be updated.

If it is not there than the Upgrade will ignore installing Messages.

What some people do is create folders within Applications to group similar apps.

Therefore they can have a "messaging" folder with MSN, Yahoo for Mac (which does not work from Yosemite On), iChat, ProteusX, AdiumX and possibly Trillian as some examples.

If this is the case then move iChat to the Applications folder and reinstall the OS
