Epubcheck approves "content" attribute. iBooks validator fails.

Although the Epubcheck validator approves a "content" attribute for the "img" element, why is ibooks' validator failing? I'm trying to find a general-purpose attribute that we can use to store data in. How can we do that?

Would creating a namespace and adding some custom-name for an attribute pass the validation?
