How to project Mac screen onto another Mac?

My Macs screen doesn't turn on and I'm trying to back up data before it gets fixed, so how do I project it onto another Mac screen without being able to control my Mac before its projected?

MacBook Air, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2), Mac

Connect the two Macs either via FireWire or Thunderbolt.. Note that although a mini displayport jack accepts Thunderbolt a mini displayport does not work for Target Disk mode. A mini displayport is video output only.

Boot the problem Mav in Target Disk Mode. Depress and hold the T key during bootup

OS X El Capitan: Transfer files between two computers using target disk mode

Then you can access the disk in the problem Mac like any other disk.

If you previous turned on Screen Sharing then yo can use that via a regular network connection to see/use the problem Mac
