Q: About imessaging

I have a second hand 4s and it’s locked by Bell. Last year, I had a phone number with Virgin Mobile but I cancelled it because it’s so expensive for me and I barely text people. So this time I want to activate my imessage but it keeps showing up “Waiting for activation”. I tried every single solution to fix it from the article by apple support but nothing worked.

I try to use my mom’s 5s and text myself by imessage and it works and I can text back!!!!! (So weird)

So I wonder if I can’t text anybody until someone text me. So I ask my friends to text me but it turns up I receive the message by email from their mobile company which means I can’t text back…

Anyways… It has been weird so is there any solution to activate the imessage or remove the phone number from my phone (Settings -> Phone -> My phone number)?
