I have a new macbook air, how do I sync it to my existing macbook pro?

Hi forum, I'm sure this question has been asked many times. However, when I performed a search I wasn't able to find a response.

In any event, I have a new macbook air that I purchased for travel purposes. At first, I didn't want to sync it to my existing macbook pro... now, I'm thinking that was a poor decision. And... I can't figure out how to "marry" the two. I'd like to use the macbook pro as my "home" or "base" machine.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

You can sync things like photos, contacts, calendars, reminders, notes, etc via the settings in Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud.

If you have documents you would like to be on both machines and kept in sync you can do that by turning on iCloud Drive in that same Preferences window and then moving the documents in question to the iCloud Drive folder. A convenient way to make that folder accessible is to go to Finder Preferences and click on Sidebar at the top of the Finder Preferences window and put a check mark in front of iCloud Drive in the Favorites section of that window.

Thank you for this information, FoxFith. I've been hesitant to use photo sharing in this way because of storage. I've found in the past that when I have photos (I shoot in RAW format) that it eats up storage really quickly on multiple devices and bogs down my machine(s). I suspect the answer to this is to buy more storage from Apple... Of which I'm not that excited to do even though it's inexpensive. Also, I'm leery of the Cloud and hacking. But... maybe this is my only answer?

The option to sync is not all or nothing. For example you could decide to sync everything except your photos -- that is what I would likely do if my Photos library was huge.

Regarding hacking, you may want to turn on whichever of the following is available to you. Two-factor is newer but not yet available to everyone; two-step is older and what I am still using. Both do an excellent job of protecting your iCloud account.
