my CPU and/or memory resources are being drained by the "com.apple.sbd" process

    How do you know that?

    Top Processes by CPU:

            98%    com.apple.sbd

Everything else slows to a near stop while this is happening.  Perhaps I am using the wrong lingo or am making an incorrect assumption.

Also, I am seeing the same, or similar, results in the Activity Monitor.

I pay no attention to the output of that app. For that kind of information, you should use the built-in Activity Monitor application. What functional problem do you have, if any?

I have been using the built-in Activity Monitor to monitor what could be causing my problems.  Essentially, my Mac Book Pro slows to a crawl when I see the "com.apple.sbd" process running.  I see it either in the CPU tab, in the Memory tab (or sometimes both), of Activity Monitor.

I will try to quit the process, but only using force quit seems to do the trick.  After doing so, my Mac Book Pro seems to return to normal.  However, by forcing this process to quit, I fear I am doing some kind of damage to other processes vital to the proper function of my laptop.

Since noticing this problem I've also done a fair amount of online research (both regular google searches and here in the Apple Community forums, where I saw others get resolution by running EtreCheck), but I don't seem to find others who are having the same issue and am therefore am at a loss about how to resolve.

    Do you use iCloud Keychain?

Please take these steps to resynchronize the iCloud keychain. Your keychain on iCloud and your other Apple devices won't be affected. Take Step 2 only if Step 1 doesn't solve the problem.

    Step 1

    Back up all data.

Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the Keychain box. You'll be prompted to delete the local iCloud keychain. Confirm—the data will remain on the servers. Then re-check the box. Follow one of the procedures described in this support article to set up iCloud Keychain on an additional device. Test.

    Step 2

If you still have problems, uncheck the Keychain box again and continue.

Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C:

    ~/Library/Keychains

    In the Finder, select

              Go Go to Folder...

from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You may not see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

A folder named "Keychains" should open. Inside it is a subfolder with a long name similar to (but not the same as) this:

               421DE5CA-D745-3AC1-91B0-CE5FC0ABA128

The above is only an example; yours will have a different name of the same general form. Drag the subfolder (not the Keychains folder) to the Trash and empty.

Restart the computer and re-enable iCloud Keychain.

Thank you so much!!  I had to employ both steps, but after a day or so of testing, this seems to have done the trick  Thanks again for your patience and your help.
