Q: Can I remove the base of a 2013 iMac?

I have read that later models of the iMac, (I have a 2013) the base cannot be removed.

I need to lower my iMac either by removing the base and attaching a mount,

placing "it" on a large book holder, or some sort of support.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Then the ONLY alternative is to replace the iMac with one of the VESA mounted iMacs. You will find these iMacs in Apple's online store, for example:

Unfortunately the answer is no, you cannot remove the base. It is permanently affixed to the chassis of the computer. You can however find third party wall mounts. For example, https://www.ergotron.com/portals/0/html/AppleAdapter/VESAguide2.html

Thanks for your input. Unfortuneately, as long as that base is attached, any other mount will
not do me any good because i need to get the monitor lower.

Well as I am going to pick up a Macbook Pro 13"/Retina display tomorrow, I shall probably refrain from getting another iMac, as walking out with 2 Macs under my arm may seem a bit precocious. lol. Guess I'll just have to adjust to the monitor being a bit high until I find another solution. Possibly a lower desk.

Remember you can also use your iMac in Target Display Mode if you want, Apple will explain this in Use your iMac as a display with Target Display Mode - Apple Support
