Can you use Siri remote to power on/off a receiver?

Hello,

I've programmed my Siri remote to control my receiver's volume. Is it also possible to program the Siri remote to control the receiver's power on and off?

Thanks!

iMac (27-inch, Late 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10.2), 16 GB RAM

I have this question too. On my system when I put AppleTV to sleep - it appears to power down the monitor. And it's hit or miss as to whether hitting the same button turns the TV on again - But it does sometimes. A bit confusing, and as a result we hit power on the TV as a rule when powering up now. But never powering down- for that we always use the ATV remote.

There is no programming of the Siri remote possible. The technology involved here is called HDMI-CEC and if your receiver supports it the Siri remote will control it. Some equipment has HDMI-CEC turned off by default while others have it turned on by default. There can also be options to control the on/off function. Check the user manual of your receiver to see if it supports HDMI-CEC (some manufacturers call it by other names so watch out). Check to see what options are available for your receiver.
