How do i remove an apple Id without the password?

I just recieved a new iphone 6s when upgrading my phone. The issue of an old Apple Id has arose because I am unable to access the email account from the provider as well. Trying to log out of the old account would require a password, which is unknown, security questions don't work adn sending the email to the account would be useless since we cannot log into that email account from it's host website. PLEASE HELP, from what I understand, this is an epidemic among a very large number of people using apple products.

Who did you receive this phone from? If a carrier gave you a phone as part of an upgrade that was not ready for a new customer, I would suggest returning it to them. The phone should have been sitting at the HELLO / Slide to setup screen and have no reference to any other user.

The epidemic you may be hinting at is about those who buy used devices and do not invest the 3 minutes it takes to check it's activation lock status online before paying for what ends up being a useless device.

As long as there are buyers who see no red flag when a $600 device is being sold for $100-150, there will be a market for unscrupulous sellers.

With an authorized dealer/reseller/carrier etc. this will never be an issue.
