Problems syncing/ battery charging

I've been having trouble with my 5th gen ipod touch getting it to sync and charge the battery. It's only a year old and recently I am having difficulty getting it to sync up reliably. When plugged in it might sync or it might not. Or it might take an hour before it realizes it is plugged in, and even then it will often rapidly cycle between syncing and unsyncing without any apparent cause. And this is when it is plugged into the wall as well as the computer. The contacts within the charge port seem neither corroded nor damaged as far I can tell tell, neither is the cable the culprit as I've tried using several different ones with identical results.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi! Have you tried using a different computer? Also, make sure iTunes on your computer is updated the the latest version (12.3 or later).

If your computer won't recognise your iOS device, try the steps suggested by Apple.

If you can’t charge your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

- Try another cable. The cable for 5G or later iPod (lightning connector) seems to be more prone to failure than the older cable.

- If a 5G ot later iPod

- Try another charging source

- Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
