A Magsafe2 power adapter is not compatible with older MBPs (non retina)
Older Poweradapters (plain Magsafe) need an adapter to work on a retina MBP.
You may safely use a Poweradapter of the same wattage or greater for what is specified for a given MBP.
Ciao.

In all cases if it is an Apple branded power adapter, and its MagSafe adapter fits in your Mac's power port, it will work. The A1222 is the 85W adapter and will charge all MacBook Pro models, even those that included a lower power adapter. It won't charge any faster though.
