Q: iCloud log-in problem at start up for Macbook 2010 running El Capitan

System Preferences always prompts me to log in my iCloud account upon star up because my password needs to be updated and is not able to connect to iCloud server even when System Pref shows I'm still logged in. When I enter my password, the spinning ball shows up on screen and will look like it's processing for a few seconds until it looks like it's finally connected— spinning ball's gone and previous window prompt automatically disappears, leaving the just the window for System Preferences. At this point, I think I'm still logged in and just go about normal usage of my laptop until I see the same prompt appear again after being idle and woken up from Sleep.

I've only experienced this kind of thing after upgrading to El Capitan from Yosemite, and have had to deal with a very sluggish OS (at best) and not being able to install key apps I need to produce work (at its worst). I've tried first-aid via Disk Utility, but even Disk Utility sees no problem in my hard disk to repair and/or verify. Should I just forget about EL CRAPITAN altogether and go back to Yosemite or is there something else I can do without having to cut off an arm and a leg for a new laptop? HELP PLEASE! Truly appreciate it

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Move the following to the Trash and restart.

Close all running apps. Put the following items in the trash:

    1) In the ~/Library/ folder, put the Caches folder in the trash.

    2) In the ~/Library/Application Support/ folder, put the folder iCloud in the trash.

    3) In the ~/Library/Preferences/ folder, put the file MobileMeAccounts.plist in the trash.

I tried this and followed your instructions to a tee. However, I'm still having the same problem. Am I missing something here?

Try running this program and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor.  Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read.
