Q: Cross OS OS X Server/NetRestore
**background** I am trying to update our imaging setup at work and I am not finding some information I need when I search. We have some older hardware that is currently running 10.10 and because of a piece of software they need to run, they can not be updated to 10.11 at this time. We have newer hardware that can only run 10.11 and they will not be running the piece of software that needs updating. We have a 10.10 OS X Server 4 in place to NetRestore the 10.10 machines. System Image Utility for OS X server 4 will not create the .nbi from a 10.11 CCC created drive. I can create the .nbi from the System Image Utility on OS X Server 5 of the 10.11 CCC created drive on a system running 10.11. I can also cast the NetRestore image to the newer hardware that only runs 10.11 from OS X Server 5 on a 10.11 system. If I create a 10.10 CCC drive the System Image Utility from OS X Server 5 on a system running 10.11, does not see the 10.10 CCC drive as a valid source to create a .nbi from. I read that OS X Server 5 is OS independent. That it runs on 10.10 and 10.11.
Q: Do I need to run OS X Server 5 on 10.10 in order to create NetRestore images of 10.10? And will it still allow me to create the NetRestore images of 10.11 if OS X Server 5 is running on 10.10?
