Q: How do I transfer photos from Camera roll on mini iPad  to iMac

I have photos on my mini iPad camera roll that dont seem to have been downloaded to my iMac.

I will often have transferred photos from an Sd card (with adapters) or wifi from my camera to my iPad but not, when I got home, evidently to my iMac.

I need to make room on my iPad so how do I transfer them to my iMac.  (I am still running Maverick, I know !!    iPad Running ISO9.2.1)

I do not use the cloud to store my photos just to transfer them via photo stream.

The pictures are not all on my photostream either. The pictures go back two years.!

I have recently (October, last year) enabled photo stream pictures to transfer photos to my iMac iPhoto events so some are OK. I have used the forum info to remove several of these pictures.

To confirm if I remove a photo from my photo roll on my iPad it will not be removed from my iMac, correct ?  and as per original question I need to transfer some pictures  to my iMac.

iPad Mini, iOS 9.2

IF you have photos that have not transferred to the Mac because they predate Photo Stream, you can import them from the camera roll by connecting the iPad to the Mac with the cable and launch iPhoto or Image Capture. Your iPad should appears as a device in the left side bar of either of the two apps and you will get the option to import the photos and then delete them from the iPad if you care to do so.

As long as the photos have been imported to the Mac, you can remove them from the camera roll without them being deleted from the Mac.

.....nothing wrong with still running Mavericks if you are comfortable with it and it suits your needs. I am still running Yosemite with no desire to move to El Capitan just yet,

Thank you I have been able to transfer to my iPad to my iMac

I have photo stream files that are on my iMac in events, but they do not show up on iCloud photo stream file. Yes they do predate my turning on the sharing with iMac.

Are these photo stream files in my "hard drive" ? or will they disappear at some time ? and if so how do I "save them?"

    Thank you.

I actually , on my last trip, kept my Sd card but these pictures are from two previous trips.

When you use Photo Stream, it should automatically download the photos to the Mac so that they are safely stored on the in iPhoto. If you no longer see them in Photo Stream on your phone, that's because they are only stored there for 30 days. The fact that they are gone from Photo Stream on your device but you see them on the Mac indicates that they have been downloaded to the Mac on the hard drive.
