Q: MACBOOK AIR SLOWER THAN A SNAIL

few months back my Macbook Air had a battery issue. Yep another swollen battery.

So I order a new one. I install said new battery yesterday and start her up.

After 5 minutes or so I get to the login screen.

another 5 or so minutes and it logs on.

I go to move the pointer and its shooting all over the page like a maniac.

Very disjointed and extremely slow to respond.

I Try PRAM reset.

I try all the other stuff that is in all the forums.

I click on the apple logo and wait another 3 minutes for the menu to drop down.

I click on "about this mac" and check hard drive space. Says I have 84gig remaining of 250.

I call help centre and they try system management reset . Try to get to disc boot mode and format hard drive but it stalls 4 times and won't load it.

Go back into my profile and go to disc utility. Repair hard drive.......... All of a sudden i'm showing only 2mb of hard drive left.

WHAT THE F**K?????

Try to empty bin...It stalls with 5 files left to clear.

Try to transfer info i want IE pics and music files over to external hard drive. No it won't identify or acknowledge the external hard drive.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Any ideas?

I can't even format the **** thing as I can't get to disc boot area to erase it.

Now because of how long it took me to get the battery, I am still on the last version of Yosemite.

Can anyone help me with this?

Cheer sin advance...

David

MacBooks should be repaired by either Apple, or authorised service providers. This ensures that you will get a high-quality replacement part that won't make your device useless.

Visit a trustworthy third-party service provider in your area and ask for help.

WHen youre 100klm from a repairer and you have had a lot of experipence sorting hardware issues out, a simple battery replacement is hardly out of my scope.

I Need some advice not a lecture thank you.

Sounds like it may well be your Hard Drive dying. I'd be inclined to replace it with something larger and perhaps faster such as an SSD. Then you simply reinstall your latest backup back onto the new drive.

    Cheers

Cheers Peter but it's a MacBook Air so is standard with ssd

I would hope that it would last longer than this.

IF not I will not be making any more investments in Apple.

WHats ts the point if it only lasts as long as a Std drive?

MIght as as well buy Sony or Toshiba for ⅓ the price and have a crap product

Does seem to be a problem with the hd/filesystem.

did you try  booting the repair partition?

    command + r then poweron

could you try installing on a flash drive?

    command + r then poweron

Try uninstalling the above using the Developer's uninstall instructions.

Also try removing Memory Cleaner. It is 'fighting' the OS for control of the RAM. Let the OS control how RAM is used.

By any chance do you have a firmware password?

    Try a safe boot.

Shutdown your machine.  Hold down the shift key.  Poweron.  Wait awhile; wait awhile while you harddrive

    OK Done all that.

Also created a new admin user to make sure that my profile wasn't the cause.

heres some more glitches ive noticed.

    1) I cannot open internet accounts from preferences screen. Just keeps giving me an error message.

    2) I cannot find my modem for wireless hookup. It just doesnt see it and wont let me enter it manually.

    3) I cannot empty the bin. It just stalls. So I cannot clear more space on my SSD

Well, that is an interesting result.  Mean there is a problem with some third party software you added or one of your preference files is messed up.

You can try creating another user account.

    Create new Account

    blue apple > system preferences

    clicks on accounts icon

click on lock icon if locked.

    enter logon password

    Picture 9.png

click on + icon ( left side of screen just above the lock icon )

    Picture 10.png

after creating new account, you need to logout of your current account.

blue apple > log out ... current count name ...

log on to new account. see if problem goes away.

    Picture 11.png

if it has gone  away, some preference file got messed up on your account. Rename the appropriate  Preference file. You will have to figure out the name.  They are .plist files.  Look for these files in Preferences folder which is in your Library folder [ more formally ~/Library/Preferences ].  ... reboot.

    Post back for more help.
