What country are you in ? What you will see in the iTunes Store apps depends upon what country that you are in (and therefore the country that is on your iTunes account) - not all countries have media (music, films etc) available from iTunes, in those countries where it isn't available you will only see the iTunes U screen.

What have you tried to see if you can get the iTunes U app to connect ? Closed it via the phone's taskbar ? Disconnected/reconnected to your network ? Soft-reset/reboot of the phone ?

What you are seeing in the iTunes Store app, the iTunes U screen, is correct, media (music etc) is not currently available from iTunes in Pakistan - your friends must have lied about where they are when creating their accounts (part of the store's terms is that you have to be in a country to use its store), Apple should permanently disable their accounts.

Does the App Store app connect ok ? And you've logging out and back into your account ?
