At the back of its box the details are written in Arabic, English and Irish!

Its charger suggests it must be manufactured for Middle Eastern countries. Availability of Facetime connotes it is not for UAE since it is prohibited there and UAE part number is AE/A.

The fact is that a large number of this part number is distributed in Iran, a country which is under US sanctions and has no direct contact with Apple but holds an indirect share of at least 5% of sold iPhones each year.

I heard the opinion, that this code belongs to Kuwait and Bahrain. But I don’t know if there are any proves. My iPhone has AH/A model number too. The details on the back of the box are written in Arabic, English and Greek. Arabic text has the link to Egyptian Apple site (www.apple.com/eg). British (or American, I dunno, however, it’s not European type) power adapter is inside.

Yes, it makes perfect sense. If you purchase a device in the Middle East, which has AB, AH, or AE in the model number, it will NOT have FaceTime when used in Europe, or the US, or Asia. It will ONLY have FaceTime when it is used under the conditions I already outlined. On a supported carrier in the Middle East in a country where FaceTime is not banned.

Are you sure about this? I had AE devices bought from Qatar before and they only got FaceTime if a Middle Eastern SIM was in there.

I received a IPhone X that is AH/A and I do not want to open it if it is not going to support FaceTime outside the Middle East. So are you sure and have you actually tried an AH/A device before on a non Middle Eastern SIM card?

this doesn't make any sense. i bought the phone,i am going to use it in Europe.

as far as i know AE models does not include the facetime app itself. in the one i have if app is available, i dont mind about carrier. by the way apple should have solve that obscurantist rule of "uae" restrictions. this matter being asked from the first day facetime announced...
