Q: IOS 9 Connectivity Issues

In my company there are around 500 iPads and 70 MacBooks. Since "upgrading" to IOS 9 most of the iPads cannot connect to the company's wireless network.

I have submitted tickets to Apple and after pretending this was an isolated problem the best I could get from them is that I should reconfigure my system.

I refuse to invest on reconfiguring or updating my system when this is obviously a mistake from Apple's developers and everything else but devices using IOS 9 connect perfectly.

The facts are:

- All devices (iPhones included) still under IOS 8.4 or not Apple products have no connectivity problems.

- Most of the devices (iPhones included) upgraded to IOS 9 cannot connect to the company's wireless network. (old iPads pre iPad Air are not affected)

- In my home network (different hardware) my iPhone 6, only device using IOS 9, cannot connect to the wireless network.

- IOS 9.2.1 has been released and these issues have not been resolved.

So taking into consideration my own experience and the thousands of posts referring to the same problems I have the following questions:

1. When is Apple going to fix the huge mess they have originated by releasing IOS 9?

2. Why does Apple keep their users wasting their time tweaking their systems instead of fixing the problem?

3. Why doesn't Apple admit that there is an issue with their update? It will save us all a lot of time

4. Why doesn't Apple give us the option of rolling back our devices to a functional IOS version?

5. and most important: Is Apple even working on fixing the issue or are they still in denial?

I have omitted details about my wireless systems because I didn't write this post to find out how to fix them since there is nothing wrong with them. Apple already knows what systems are not compatible with their update.

IOS 9 has broken the connectivity capability of iPads and iPhones and if there is not going to be a solution for it Apple should consider recommending their users to exchange their broken devices for functional ones since an iPad that cannot connect is basically a very expensive brick...

This is a user-to-user support forum. The only people here are people like yourself.

Thank you for your answer Ethan, I was under the impression this was moderated by Apple.

Apple have been told of these issues and are hoping that this issue (alongside others) will be fixed in iOS 9.3. As we are still quite early on in iOS 9 it is not unusual to still/be having this crop up. If your thinking about jailbreaking your device I wouldn't do it. So if it's really that bad either stop using your device for things which need connections or make sure no electrical work is going on in your area which could be affecting you connecting. If you have had powercuts recently that may also be the case. Hope this helped, love Neon, an Apple nerd since 2012.

although this is a 'moderated' forum, 'moderation' does not include tech support (I'm pretty sure you know what a moderator does)

    Since you are an 'enterprise', I am hoping you have " AppleCare for Enterprise " >  http://www.apple.com/support/enterprise/ - and/or - a "Self-Servicing Account" > https://www.apple.com/uk/support/programs/ssa/

    Benefits

Service Accounts are able to take advantage of the following benefits:

    • Ability to perform repairs on select Apple products
    • Maintain control of the installed base of products, quality and time of the entire repair process
    • Access to Apple’s service parts, exclusive diagnostic tools, and systems
    • Next day shipment of replacement product, subject to parts availability and account status
    • Access to Apple’s online technical and account management support functions
    • Access to support resources including: training modules, technical guides, support articles, invoicing/statements, performance metrics, and real-time chat and email support from Apple
    • Two complimentary vouchers for initial certification

    [emphasis is mine]

IMHO, you should get on the phone with Apple. If there is a "fix or workaround" known to them, I am sure they will help you out - IF you politely, yet assertively, insist on 'elevating' the issue' up the levels of specialists (as an experienced single user, I have never had a low level specialist solve my issue... I wouldn't have called unless it was a 'last resort' - you need to be communicating with 'engineer level' folk... I have been transferred five times on a single call on two occasions)

You won't need your device repaired, it still wouldnt fix the issue as that isn't the problem. It's the wireless network in your company that is the problem. If there's lots of iPads trying to connect at the same time or loto that are on it the network gets over loaded and tends to slow down or not let anyone join at all for a time. Ways to fix this can be that you find the main hub to this network source and try connecting there. 2. Make sure the network isn't locked; if it is locked the network is usually better but you will need to know the password. Hope this helped again.

Thank you for the links ChitlinsCC, I have already contacted Apple, talked to their specialists and, as I said before, the best answer I got was, very politely of course, that it was a known issue and that I had to update my system myself. That is when I gave up on Apple support.

Maybe I have the wrong mentality, but I don't think that users should invest time and resources on adapting their systems to Apple's defective updates when it should be them giving us a solution, which apparently they are not capable of, taking into account the considerable amount of time it has passed since the release of IOS 9.

A decent solution would be rolling back to a functional IOS version until they manage to figure out what went wrong with IOS 9, but I guess that wouldn't be good marketing and instead they prefer to keep us discussing ways of patching our systems, but that is not customer care.

Thank you very much for your response Flopsy2011 but I'm afraid that there is nothing wrong with my network, it has been working perfectly until the release of IOS 9 and any device that hasn't been updated or is non Apple is still connecting without problems.

I really hope that 9.3 will sort this out and that it is released very soon!

I don't know what has happened to Apple on 2015 but El Capitan hasn't been a great success either, thankfully Time Machine is there to help us go back to Yosemite...

In my experience with Apple Support, you MAY not yet have climbed high enough up the chain - but I cannot know that, only that I have gone pretty high for a couple of issues to get resolution.

Wifi specifications do NOT change to match a mere Apple iOS update - BUT it may be that the only solution that they can PROVIDE you at present is for you to do the work. In my former life as a niche software tech support manager, I occasionally had to write a "How to fix" document for dissemination to fairly large user groups, thus enlisting the end users as the IT guy's hands on the computers - consider that strategy?

Apple has simply said to you that they are aware of the issue, which likely means that any known fix can only be dealt with in a future update of iOS, along with all the other fixes that need it - which is how ALL issues are dealt with by every software developer everywhere

    hang in there, amigo

Thank you for your support ChitlinsCC, I'm REALLY hanging there...

Until now we have endured the problem by doing exactly what you are saying: how tos, emails, patches, etc. It is just frustrating that you would acquire Apple products because of their ease of use and administration and then getting all this nonsense. How long has it been since the release of IOS 9, 6 months? and still no solution....

Well, only 2 choices here, either waiting for 9.3 to finally sort it out or advocating for any another brand that has wifi capability on their products. We will see, sooner than later I hope!
