iPhone auto sets airplay to car source after connecting to car bluetooth

Every time my iPhone connects to my car's bluetooth, the phone changes the AirPlay setting to output all sound to the bluetooth connection. This requires me to manually switch AirPlay back to "iPhone", every time I get in the car if I want to hear notifications.

Setting AirPlay to "iPhone" does not change any of the hands-free capabilities. Phone calls are still hands free, and if I choose to play music on my iPhone, then the AirPlay source (correctly) switches itself back to the car bluetooth connection.

I am not someone who uses my iPhone for 100% of my music while driving - so this is extremely annoying.

Is there a setting or option to disable this "feature", without removing my car's bluetooth? Because it's rather annoying.

As I said above, if this setting was just changed to not "default" switch the AirPlay channel on bluetooth connection, it would solve everything. Seems like a very shortsighted design decision.

That is completely normal behavior if the audio system you've connected to supports A2DP audio streaming.

That can not be disabled on the phone. You would have to disable A2DP on the head unit in your car.

This seems like a weird thing to label as "normal behaviour" considering:

- it's ridiculously annoying for the user

- it's 100% useless since actually starting audio streaming would switch airplay to the car anyway

- i have yet to encounter a car brand that behaves differently

- android phones don't have this issue

- it would be extremely easy for Apple to change this default or at least provide a setting for it
