iPhone 6+ Audio input ports?

There are multiple third party accessory (audio) mics for iPhones. Some plug into the headphone jack, others via the lightning port. Does one port offer superior audio input over the other? Any other reasons to input via one port over the other?

The only advantage I see up front is that a mic that accesses the headphone port can be used on many other devices. Options are far more limited with a lightning port device.
