The menu bar and dock disappear in Excel only

When I use Excel, the dock and menu bars "disappear". This only happens with Excel, and it is annoying since sometimes they are slow to "reappear" when I run the cursor to the top or bottom of the screen. Can't figure out how to disable this feature. This only happens with Excel, and I am using Excel for Mac 2011
