My bank required me to install some security software on my iMac. Now I find that holding down a key no longer brings up the accents menu, a feature that's absolutely essential for me. How can I restore it?

Is it only an issue in the password field? Please try the same technique in TextEdit to confirm it is disabled system wide.

Uninstall the "security" software. You do not need that on a mac and on the contrary it is counterproductive.

No one is entitled to dictate to you what software you should install. You should never install any software, no matter what it is, merely because some stranger tells you to. You should only install software that does something useful to you.
