My photos library has over 70k pics in it and when iMovie opens, photos atomically opens as a library option. This takes forever and I never use the photos library for iMovie. How can I delete the library so that iMovie does not access it upon opening?

Next time this occurs check in the Photos toolbar for the checkbox option to turn that off.
Thank you for your quick reply but I can't seem to find a checkbox option to turn off the photos library. I looked in iMovie and in photos. Can you be more specific where I can locate the checkbox option?

It is not an option to turn off Photos. It's an option that prevents Photos from launching automatically. If you open Photos and iMovie also opens, then the checkbox should be in the Photos toolbar. If there is no such option, then you are not correctly describing your problem.
