DesktopsNext time this occurs check in the Photos toolbar for the checkbox option to turn that off.

DesktopsIt is not an option to turn off Photos. It's an option that prevents Photos from launching automatically. If you open Photos and iMovie also opens, then the checkbox should be in the Photos toolbar. If there is no such option, then you are not correctly describing your problem.
