I'm new to Numbers and need some assistance. While practicing with a spreadsheet I noticed that when I try to save it the location gives "Numbers - iCloud" with the iCloud "grayed-out". Does that mean it will store it both on my computer and in iCloud? When I see that will it be stored on my computer, on iCloud or in both places? I can see where I might want to store it only in one of the two places or sometimes in both places.
Using El Capitan
"Numbers - iCloud" is a folder within iCloud Drive. If you save it there, it will be stored on iCloud as well as on your computer. If you have iCloud Drive turned on in your computer, anything you save to iCloud Drive will also maintain a local copy on your computer. There is no option to change that. Note that you can save from Numbers to another (non iCloud Drive) folder on your computer and that will not also be saved to iCloud -- but anything you save to iCloud Drive will also maintain a local copy on your computer.
If you go to the Finder Go menu and click iCloud Drive, that will display the local copy of your iCloud Drive.
Thanks for the response. It helped me get started. I created a spreadsheet on my laptop and found it on iCloud using my iPhone. However when opening Numbers on my iPhone it shows up as an untitled file, even though I gave it a name when creating/saving it on my laptop. At the risk of wearing out my welcome, why isn't the name of the file showing up on my iPhone when I open Numbers?
When you opened Numbers on your phone, did it open directly into that file? I'm thinking possibly that Handoff (see Handoff section of Use Continuity to connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac - Apple Support ) may have resulted in it going directly into the file that was open on your Mac. On the iPhone, Numbers/Pages don't show the file name while you are editing the file (presumably a space issue). You can click the left arrow at the top to go back to the screen that displays all of your iCloud - Numbers files and that should display the name of each. The name should also show in the iCloud Drive app on your phone.
Shortly after I sent you the last reply I checked again and everything was OK. I don't know why there was a delay, but all appears to be as it should be.
