Q: Aperture v. 2 on El Capitan
I intended to install the Aperture 2 version I have on my present Mac Pro, 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon running El Capitan, but after going through the installation and entering my serial # I got a message saying that Aperture 2 is incompatible and could possibly damage the OS, apparently. There was the option to click on "Install Anyway". What happens if I give it a try? Also, can I somehow update the v. 2 to a compatible version, or must I buy an update to v.3 if that will work?
I'd prefer not to spend the money, and also wonder (as a newbie with this) whether Aperture and Adobe Lightroom are similar in their productivity. I haven't researched it, but any comments welcome, thanks.

There is one problem with that plan, Kappy. keithgvpneeds Aperture 3.6, the only compatible version for El Captan. aperture 3 is a paid upgrade, not a free update, but Aperture is no longer sold at the App Store. The boxed versions of Aperture 3, available from Amazon or eBay, can only be updated to Aperture 3.4.3 from the Support downloads page. All Aperture updates beyond that have only been released as AppStore versions and are only available for AppStore versions of Aperture.
. keithgvp, contact the AppStore Support, if they will sell you a redeem code for Aperture 3.6. Otherwise it will be hopeless to obtain a workable copy of Aperture 3.6 for your current system, now that Apple stopped the development and sale of Aperture.
As a work-around, You can open your Aperture 2 library in the new Photos.app to access your photos, if you want to move your library to Lightroom or Capture One, now that Aperture is no longer developed by Apple. This document tells you, how your Aperture library will be migrated to Photos: How Photos handles content and metadata from iPhoto and Aperture - Apple Support
