Q: I upgraded to OS X El Capitan and cant locate photo library.  It says library already migrated but wont open up.

I recently upgraded my Macbook pro to OS X El Capitan 10.11.1.  I realized I cant view my photos.  I get the message "Photo Library already migrated" but I cant open.  I tried dragging the Iphoto icon onto Photo icon but that did not work.  The I Photo icon under finder files is greyed out and does not open but shows 28 GB of memory so it appears the pictures are there.  I dont know what to do.

First try this:    If Photos won't open a library that you already migrated - Apple Support

If that does not let you open your iPhoto Library in Photos, select your iPhoto Library in the Pictures folder, or where ever you are storing the iPhoto Library, and then change the filename extension of the iPhoto Library back from ".migratedphotlibrary" to ".photolibrary". This will let you open the library in iPhoto, if you have iPhoto 9.6.1 installed or migrate it again to Photos.

It is puzzling, that Photos cannot open the library it created already.  Where are you storing your photo libraries? On an external drive? If on an external drive, how is the drive formatted and is it directly connected to your Mac? Is the drive used with Time Machine?

Sorry but I am not real savvy with this. I do not have I Photo 9.6.1 or Apeture so the link did not help.  My pictures are are on the Mac in "Pictures" when you click on the "Finder" shortcut.  In one of the folders is the iPhoto Library and under "kind" it says migrated library.  How do I change the filename extension, i don't see any extension??  I am not sure what I am doing here...

I was trying to take a snapshot of what it looks like but am unable to, but listed below is how it is shown.  You may understand ----

    2013                                                                    Date Modified                            size                    Kind

    "Picture Icon"  iPhoto Library                            Feb 24 2016, 10:43pm              26.09GB           Migrat...Library

It does not appear that I can download iPhoto 9.6.1 -- I searched for it online and can't locate.

    Thanks

Like the other irrational post you made post like this are useless you post a clam, intelligent question and provide details - unless you act rational and ask clear questions no one here can assist you
