iPhone 6s Plus Outgoing "Call Failed" error - Airtel network

I recently brought the iPhone 6s Plus from US and using it in India Airtel network. Since last 1 week or so, I am guessing from the time there was an update on ios 9.2.1 I started getting this error "Call Failed" whenever I tried to do outgoing calls. This does not happen all the time, but only sometimes. When it happens it does not allow me to do outgoing calls for atleast an hour or more. Ultimately some how the outgoing calls start to work again on it's own sometimes and sometimes it starts working 10 minutes after doing the "Reset All Settings" feature. I checked with the carrier Airtel several times and they have confirmed there is no issue with the network. I have myself put another Airtel sim card into the iPhone and even that sim did not work during the outage time. At the same time, I put my sim into a different Android phone and it works perfectly without sim. This leads me to believe there is some issue with the phone hardware/software itself and not any issue with the carrier. Did anyone had any permanent resolution from these intermittent outages?

I have found a solution to the above problem. I have tried this solution every time my outgoing calls continually failed to any caller. It worked every time like a charm.

Whenever you face this issue of "Call Failed" for every outgoing call.

Open the Dialer Key Pad and dial

*#31#

Press Talk button, you will get a message "Setting Interrogation Succeeded. Calling Line ID restriction Disabled"

You should then be able to do outgoing calls again.

Some helpful links I have found for the same.

Try to reset your device. This won't delete your data stored on this device.

  • Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button
  • Press and hold on the Home button
  • Keep holding both buttons until the display turns off and back on with Apple logo on it.

Alternatively, you may go to Settings - General - Reset - Reset All Settings

Restore your device to factory settings. Note that this will erase the data from your device.

Take a look this Apple Support article: Use iTunes to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support.

If these steps don't work, contact Apple and ask for help. This may be a hardware issue.

Thank you Cohen for your reply. I have tried most of the things that I had found in the forums. The only thing that I did not do was to restore the phone as a new iPhone. Instead, I restored to first factory settings and then restored to the last backup I had taken before starting the restore to get back all the contacts and other data. The problem is this does not happen always, but only at intermittent times usually for an hour or more and then sometimes automatically becomes normal, sometimes by itself and sometimes after resetting all settings on the phone. We realize the outgoing calls is not working only when we want to dial to someone and we get the message immediately "Call Failed". During that time, I try to do all kinds of reset/restart etc,. to try to resolve the issue. Sometimes I get frustrated and just leave the phone for sometime and it starts working automatically again. Note that during that time all incoming calls/messages/mobile internet works fine without issues. It is only the outgoing calls that does not work properly. The last thing I need to try next time this happens is to connect to iTunes and then restore it as a new iPhone instead from a backup. I am pretty sure that will not resolve my problem as this seems to be a software issue in iOS 9.2.1, which Apple needs to fix in future releases. This kind of basic issues with the phone really frustrates for a person like me who has recently switched from Android to iPhone with this being my first iPhone and my inner self wants me to go back to Android again. FYI, in the last one week this has happened atleast 4-5 times for a period of 1 hour or more since the time I realized that outgoing calls are not working.

Hi

I am also using iPhone 6s Plus with airtel. Initially *#31# solution worked for me twice but later on the problem came back again and *#31# solution was not working.

Later on I have found a new solution to it. In Mobile data setting switch of 4G data option you will be able to make calls and everything will be fine. Works for me.
