Media has been pirated through VHS but you may have still had a VHS player. Music, movies, and software have been pirated and distributed through optical media such as CD and DVD's but you may have still listened to audio CD's. Torrents and torrent clients themselves are not illegal granted torrents can be used for illegal activities.

If you wish to have a torrent client to download a legal torrent such as a linux distribution, at least get a torrent client that won't come bundled with adware. qBittorrent, Deluge, and Transmission are some examples of open-source torrent clients. These torrent clients won't install adware or malware on your computer. If you use the torrent client for piracy and get caught or download malware through the torrent client, that's on you.

Considering that torrents are 99% of the time used to pirate copyrighted material, you're not going to find people here willing to help you install a program that allows you to do that. If you can't download uTorrent for whatever reason, consider it a sign that you shouldn't have that program on your MacBook.

Recent developments show you can never be sure about that. 🙂
