Feb 26, 2016 2:42 AM in response to magdafromploby léonie,Which version of Yosemite do you have? Photos for Mac will be installed with MacOS X 10.10.3 or later. If Photos is missing, look at the Updates tab off the App Store and update at least to MacOS X 10.10.3, better to 10.10.5 to get all Yosemite bug fixes. Then you will be able to use Photos for Mac.
To be able to use iPhoto, update to iPhoto 9.6.1. This will only be possible, however, if you used iPhoto 9.x.x.
iPhoto 9.6.1 is working well with Yosemite and El Capitan.
See Barney's User Tip, if you did not yet update to iPhoto 9.6.1: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-8431

Feb 26, 2016 7:48 AM in response to magdafromploby léonie,★HelpfulThe problem is, that Apple stopped the development of iPhoto in favor of the new Photos for Mac application. You can no longer purchase iPhoto, and the upgrade from your iPhoto version to iPhoto 9.6.1 requires a purchase of iPhoto '11.
But you should be able to migrate your iPhoto Libraries to the new Photos for Mac. Only update your system to a Yosemite version or El Captan version that already has Photos installed, at least MacOS X 10.10.3. If you can, I'd upgrade to El Capitan. Photos has been improved in the new system.
To get you started with Photos for Mac:
To update your System launch the App Store. All software updates will appear on the lost tab of the App Store, "Updates":
