Q: Where can I find Compressor 2.3?

I know I'm way behind but I need compressor 2.3, does anyone know where I can find it?

I don't have the cash, nor do I use it enough any more to upgrade my apps. So, I'm on FCP 5.1.4 and all the upgrades that go with it. I Can't get compressor (2.3.1) to work anymore. It says that it cannot connect to the background process. So after lots of research I went the uninstall and reinstall route as recommended by Apple. After reinstalling compressor and Qmaster, I need to update them, but I can't find the update anywhere. I got and ran ProAppsUpdate2006-002 but that didn't take me back to compressor 2.3.1. Does any know where I can get fond it?

thanks,

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

Your OS is too new.  Compressor 3.5 and 2.3 broke when MacOS 10.9 (Mavericks) was released. Motion and QMaster also don't work. The only way to get that version of Compressor working (it's nearly 8 years old), is to run it on an older OS. No higher than 10.8.

Thanks. I know i've edited on it before on this machine. Now that I'm looking at it, I used it on this machine in early 2013 and Mavericks cam out after that, so that must be why I remember it working, but now it doesn't. that's tremendous help.

Next question, I haven't looked yet, but can I get 10.8 free from Apple still? I just put a 3 TB HDD in this, maybe I can put a couple hundred GB partition and boot into 10.8 for finishing this project. Once I got back to 10.8 will the old software update features come back and I can update all the applications automatically and get my up to the higher version of the old stuff?

    Thanks again. Great help!

Actually Shane, maybe you can help me just get it working on my old G4 (10.5 - same specs on FCP and Compressor). It's slow but should work. the issue is, all of a sudden when I export to compressor from FCP then choose a setting I get the beachball of death and compressor stops responding. I haven't tried uninstalling compressor and Qmaster yet, maybe that's the fix. I have tried resetting background processes in compressor and trashing the preferences and repairing permissions.

I moved the project over to the iMac this morning b/c I thought compressor would work and it'd be faster, but there's no reason I can't just let the G4 work overnight to output the file if I can get compressor working.

"can I get 10.8 free from Apple still? "

Alas, no. When Apple starting providing their OS as downloads only (no physical installer), they now yank the previous version about a month after they release the new one. You would have to find someone who happened to make a USB Thumb drive installer. or you can go back to 10.6.8 or 10.7...those had physical disc installers.

"I just put a 3 TB HDD in this, maybe I can put a couple hundred GB partition and boot into 10.8 for finishing this project"

That is my solution. My MacPro has 3 boot partitions, all different OS versions and different editing software.

"Once I got back to 10.8 will the old software update features come back and I can update all the applications automatically and get my up to the higher version of the old stuff?"

I believe so. But Apple also provides the updates as downloads. ODDLY, while they don't provide older versions of the OS. Well, not Sure Microsoft does this either...have to look for somene selling it.
