Neither the Time Capsule or the AirPort Extreme are AirPlay devices; only the AirPort Express or Apple TV are.

For AirPlay to work, you need at least three things:

    1. An AirPlay "server." Typically this would be iTunes on a Mac or PC, or the Music app on an iOS device (iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad).
    2. A wired or wireless network. This can be provided by an AirPort Extreme, an Express, or a Time Capsule.
    3. An AirPlay "speaker." This could be an AirPort Express, Apple TV, or another manufacturers' AirPlay-ready device.

The main difference between the Apple TV and the Time Capsule, is that the Apple TV can be #3 in the list above, whereas, the Time Capsule would be item #2.
