apple no longer supports osx10.6.8 app store or facetime?????? this really *****....is there a workaround?

thanks neil but there is no new software for my system....facetime & app store will not function at all.....apple support said they no longer support osx 10.6.8 snow leopard and that it won't be long until i cannot even access the internet with my imac....he said i will have to buy a new mac....is this true?
