It is my understanding that Safari is among the Apps from Apple that is only "installed" with the OS X... after installation, only 'updates' available

Why are you wanting to re-install Safari anyway? Some problem that may have some solution we can offer?

Safri hangs on me.  It is running a lot slower.  It started today. Usually, when I reinstall it and it runs  okay.  It is the easiest fix and the first thing I try. Apple is giving me the runaround. They say download here and I get a series of pictures telling how great Safari is.  I keep going round and round.  I don't want to download it at Softec and Cnet is getting to be a hassle.

I think a few things need to be clarified here.  One, you cannot reinstall Safari without reinstalling El Capitan.  Safari cannot be uninstalled or removed, and you can't update it independent of the operating system.  It's not like Chrome or Firefox or Opera in that respect.  Two, you cannot download Safari on Apple's website.  As I said, it cannot be downloaded independent of the operating system.  Three, you should NEVER download ANYTHING from an aggregate download site like CNET, Softpedia, Softonic, Download (dot) com, or MacUpdate.  The installers can be, and have been, riddled with malware and adware.

I don't know how you've "reinstalled" it in the past given you can't uninstall it, but it sounds like you've botched your system up to high heaven.  Do you have any "maintenance" apps like CleanMyMac, MacKeeper, MacCleaner, or TuneMyMac on your computer?

Your browser may have picked up some extensions or a bad page out there may

have included adware or malware-like items to your system. Or other causes.

Now that you have explained where you are using to download from, I suggest you download and install EtreCheck from http://etrecheck.com/

Run it and post the report here. The EtreCheck report will allow us to see if you have managed to install any malware from those sites.

Thank you for trying to help.  I have heard what you said before and it wasn't true.     Recently I was  having trouble with Photo.  They told me to download Etre Check to check my computer. There was nothing was wrong with my computer.  Photo was making the computer work too hard. I switched back to iPhoto and it does what I want. I have been dealing with Safari for years. I know you can't uninstall it but I seem to remember  installing it or updating it over the version I had.  I never used Mac Keeper or things like that. I have used Cnet if I had t and it was worth it. The computer works fine. The other web browsers work fine. Yesterday Safari was great. Today it was hanging. I used Malewearbytes and no problem.  So I thought I could install the program over it and it would run fine. I have done that for years. I do think Apple shouldn't say download here and not allow you to download. They should say Safari comes with the operating system for Mac. Thank you.

I don't know what you think I said before that wasn't true.  If you were having issues with your computer and you were asked to download EtreCheck and post your status report to the thread, that was because EtreCheck is a valuable tool we use to see what, if anything, might be causing the issues on your computer.  Most of the time it helps, but sometimes it doesn't.  That doesn't mean we were wrong to ask you to do it.  How else will we know what is wrong with your computer if we don't know what's on it?

What is the URL of the website you were looking at that you were trying to download Safari from?

    Flame --

I helped a friend get through Photo/iPhoto situations with the El Capital upgrade.  It's very complicated, it seems to me.  And I know how one thing leads to another, but I'm wondering if the Photo/iPhoto tweaking (that's putting it mildly) isn't entirely different that your slowdown with Safari.

Has Safari ever quit on your?

Do you ever get error messages on it?

Could you tell us more about your Safari issues?

    1. Your browser may have picked up some extensions or a bad page out there may

My guess is some code became corrupted or I picked up an extension.

    2. have included adware or malware-like items to your system. Or other causes.

I used Malwarebytes and did not find any malware.

    3. • If Safari doesn't load a page or webpage items are missing - Apple Support

Sometimes it wouldn't load the whole page.  The slider on the right that allows scrolling was missing a few time.  Mostly I get the colored wheel and the page freezes. Sometimes the wheel goes away and I can do what I want. Usually, I would have to use the activity monitor to stop Safari.  Good always worked well.  Bing would work  slower and sometimes would hang.   If I keep going back to the page and am patient I can usually do what I want.

I never see popups or ads.

    Thank you

You are running El Capitan on the minimum RAM recommended; you also should get rid of uTorrent and MacCleaner - use their uninstall instructions. And, I have no idea what those unkown files are, but it would probably be best to get rid of those as well.

I never ran them.  I can't get rid of either one.   If you know how I can please let me know. Both of then loaded by themselves when I hit ok to close down a screen. When I put either one into spotlight it denies they exist.  Utorrent is in start up but it is inactivated. Should I reinstall utorrent and maccleaner and uninstall it?  I am afraid to do it.   Do you know how I can get rid of the unknown files?

Remember this is only with Safari and started today.

I am grateful for your help.

    1. 2. There is no overlap.  The Photo problem was over about three to four weeks ago.  I had been using iPhoto.  I tried to use Photo and saw no advantage. The problem was Photo would grind to a halt.  iPhoto was fast.

    1. 3. Has Safari ever quit on your?

It may have stopped once or twice.  It did when I was closing windows but it happened suddenly.

4, Do you ever get error messages on it?

I never got any error messages

    1. 5. Could you tell us more about your Safari issues?

I rarely use any other browser but other two have advantages.  This started today.  Everything else it okay. Safari beachballs.
