No longer possible to publish a feed in iTunes U and in the podcast store

Just a heads up -

We have for the past several years published some of our iTunes U feeds in the regular iTunes podcast store often using the same RSS feed for both. Since the recent launch of iTunes Connect (the new service for submitting and managing content in the iTunes store), however, it seem that it is no longer possible to submit an RSS feed in iTunes U and the iTunes podcast store. I get a message which says “Status: Failed Validation” and “Can’t submit your feed. Your feed was previously submitted."

I have submitted a support ticket to Apple but some trial and error testing suggests that there is a work-around. If you have already submitted your feed to iTunes U you can submit to the iTunes podcast store but you must change the feed URL and the podcast title. I am not sure whether this a new Apple policy or a glitch in the new iTunes Connect service.

Another work around might be to submit the feed to the iTunes podcast store first and then submit to iTunes U using public site manager - but I have tested that theory yet.

Thanks for Info Erik. I think I also vaguely remember hearing something from Apple along those lines or perhaps it was that iTunesU is only for pedagogical content. In practice many Universities ourselves included do not use the distance learning capabilities of iTunesU and instead use it primarily for marketing and external comms. As such I think it's a bit late for Apple to be enforcing rules which effectively force content contributors choose between the podcast store or iTunesU.

It presents us with a dilemma as most of our iTunesU content is not pedagogical and much of it is more suited to the podcast store (and we get much more traffic from the podcast store) but internally our content contributors are keen to also have the content featured on iTunesU. I guess we'll have to use the work-around of using a different feed URL and slightly different feed title.
