Q: Ethernet port on mac mini 2014 issue?

Hello I recently returned home from an outing, I was away for about an hour and when i returned i turned on my mac mini and BAM no ethernet connection, Ive went through the router and settings endlessly, Other computers in the house connect to ethernet, I can connect to wifi with the Mini. When i plug it into ethernet, It does nothing at all, except turn the light on the router on that its plugged in<<<<<< Ive checked the port for any obstructions. everything looks peachy from the outside, Any insight on this, Ive reset the router, reset it to factory default, done everything i could think of, checked DNS Settings, I can pick any connection up to the router without wifi though. Pls help< I don't like the horrible download capabilities of wifi, And i pay good money for a 100mb a second connection which i can only achieve by WAN/LAN

- Try starting in Safe Mode

- Boot to Recovery and repair the startup disk

- If it is repairable reinstall the OSX

How to reinstall OS X on your Mac - Apple Support

- If you do not have a backup use disk utility to restore the internal disk to an external disk so you can try to recover data.

Then format the startup disk and do a fresh install of OSX

I have experienced the same issue , did diagnostic and eyhernet works in the safe as im using log out and into my account bam doesnt work but my wifi does

I tried diagnostics and nothing happened, although I do have dual boot windows 10 I pre not to use I find my computer runs hotter than in osx i keep of it. Might try booting into Windows. And seeing if it's just related to OS X. Most likely not though. Ports probably dead . Ive shut down unplugged everything replugged same issue over and over.

i powered down then restarted ,then when i pressed power i held the D button on key board, then it checked my mac mini ,then after it booted it took me to safari, sent the refrence number ,then i disabled the wifi did a speed test and got my wired speeds and was able to safari browser. i setup a appointment at apple store thats 45 min away if they dont patch and fix then they can look at im done trying to figure out issue not even 6 months old

WWell works fine in windows 10 dual boot. As much as I hate to use windows on my device I like to keep it cool and my fan not running 2500 Rpms, looks like an issue with OS X. Haven't logged into this since xmas. Amazing bro

i figured it would be a OS X issue but ill still take it it maybe i get lucky and get a newer model for them not figuring out ??

TThat would be nice for sure. I'm happy with my device up til this. I may just reinstall OS X back down to yose see if that fixes it. I don't keep anything on it except for netflix and shomi and few other streaming sources

I'm having the same issue. Started when I booted up my Mini this morning (2014 model). Just spent 40 minutes on the phone with Apple Care. Tried everything from adding new user account, NVRAM and PRAM reset etc. Trying a different network cable, or the original cable hooked up to my Windows laptop, which happily works.

Only in recovery mode Ethernet worked, so I got advised to install OS X again from Recovery first with my own stuff still installed (after backing up) and if that doesn't fix it. Then a clean installation.

Appears to be an OS X issue.

Had the same problem here with the Ethernet Port gone. It seems to be a problem with a silent security update gone wrong. Read more about it on Reddit:

I just downloaded and installed OS X again and it solved the problem. Maybe not the fastest solution but a very easy one.
