I keep getting a pop up from MegaBackup. I have tried to remove the app but it keeps telling me it is open. I cannot seem to see where it is open and how to close it. Can anyone help?

I have a MacBook Pro with OS X El Capitan Version 10.11.3. All of sudden I keep getting pop ups from a program called MegBackUp. I cannot seem to remove this from my computer as it keeps saying it is open when I try to move it to Trash. I have tried the key short cuts but it is not working. Can anyone help?

"MegaBackup" is either an untrustworthy cloud-storage application or perhaps actual malware. I haven't tried to make that distinction. To remove it, please start by backing up all data (not with MegaBackup itself, of course.) Then take the steps below.

1. Select the Login Items tab in the Users & Groups pane of System Preferences. Delete any items with a name beginning in "MegaBackup".

2. Log out or restart the computer.

3. Drag the MegaBackup application from the Applications folder to the Trash and empty.

Note that you can't delete any application by trying to drag its icon from the LaunchPad or the Dock. You must open the Applications folder in the Finder.

You may have installed ad-injection malware along with MegaBackup. If you're seeing unaccustomed popup ads in a web browser, ask for further instructions.
