Q: why my iphone 5s cant read mp4 or why i cant transfer mp4 to my iphone?

i cant transfer videos from my laptop to my iphone through iTunes. if I drag the video to my videos it says iphone cant read these files. what will I do?

iPhone 5s, iOS 7.0.4

Add the content to your iTunes library first. Do they play there? If iTunes won't copy them to the device that suggests the iPhone's video app cannot play them. There are alternative players. Is the intention to access the content with iMovie for iOS?
