I understand you are unable to use Wi-Fi on your iMac and the System Report shows a MAC address listed under AirPort. Let's start with going through the troubleshooting articles below.

There were some disk permission problems, but I've taken care of them. I still have the same issue though where from the Network preferences I cannot add Wi-Fi.

Thank you for the follow-up. Since you have tried to create a new location, let's try to boot into Internet Recovery to see if Wi-Fi shows as an option.
If Wi-Fi doesn't show as an option when in Internet Recovery, I would then suggest reaching out to us via phone for further assistance.
