You install software such as MacDrive into Windows.

trouble is i live 2000 miles from my mom and her xp and she will never figure that out is there a way i can tell my mac to format for xp

Choose Utilities from the Finder’s Go menu, open the Disk Utility, and reformat it as MS-DOS or exFAT.
