    Check your settings again.

Set up SMS and MMS with Continuity

    1. You need iOS 8 or later on your iOS devices and OS X Yosemite or later on your Mac.
    2. Sign in to iMessage with the same Apple ID on your iPhone, your other iOS devices, and your Mac.
    3. On your iPhone, go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Add a check to both your phone number and email address. Then go to Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding and enable the device or devices that you want to forward messages to.
    4. Look for a code on the Mac, iPad, or iPod touch that you enabled. Then enter this verification code on your iPhone.

So far so good, that was all as it should be :-) but where do I find the verification code?

    1. 4. Look for a code on the Mac, iPad, or iPod touch that you enabled. Then enter this verification code on your iPhone.

The verification code is something that would only see when you set up Continuity and SMS text message forwarding Your initial post indicates that the feature was working for you at some point, so if that is true, you could try signing out of iMessages on the phone and your other compatible devices and then start all over again.

Was this working for you at one point?

    Hi again.

    Update:

This getting back took longer than I had planned, for which I apologize.

The thing is - I have to take a deep breath before trying to reset, so I’m afraid I keep putting it of ;-(

The other day I forwarded a link form the Net. It did turn up on my iPhone but not on the other devices. Perhaps it would have, had I restarted, I WILL get to that and I will – eventually – let you know when I succeed.

    All the best :-)
