Q: Help! I've sold my watch without turning the Activation Lock off!

Hi,

I did not know I needed to turn off Activation Lock off on my Apple watch and have sold  it over the internet.

Understandably the buyer is upset.   How can I turn the lock off?   Will giving my apple ID to the buyer help?

Many thanks,

Simon

    Hi Simon

Turn the feature off via https://www.icloud.com/ by signing in with your Apple ID > Settings > My Devices > Click on Apple Watch > Click on the "X" > click on Remove.

That I didn't see because I started creating it before you had submitted.

Relax, other people are allowed to post here too.

    Hi Simon

If removing the watch from your iCloud devices (as detailed above) does not immediately remove Activation Lock, also try the following steps:

    • If you have not yet done so, unpair the watch via the Watch app on your iPhone (even though the watch is not available):
      • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > My Watch > Apple Watch: if the button is available, tap on Unpair Apple Watch.

Ask the new owner to try these steps:

    • On their iPhone: close the Watch app along with all other open apps (double-press on the Home button, swipe up on each of the app previews).
    • Restart both devices, turning both of them off and then restarting the iPhone first:
      • To turn the watch off: press and hold the side button until they see the Power Off slider; drag the slider to turn off.
      • To turn the watch back on: press and hold the side button until they see the Apple logo.
    • Then re-try setting it up.

It is not advisable to provide the new owner with your Apple ID credentials, even if you change your password again afterwards.

If the watch remains locked, you should instead contact Apple Support and explain the situation, making clear that you are the original owner. They may then be able to assist you further:

i'm having the same issue -- removing it from the iCloud.com did nothing for me, the buyer says it's still locked to my account and when i check online at iCloud.com/activationlock it still says it's locked to my account.

i called apple and they said i should turn off the find my phone option and new buyer should be able to see a fix, that didn't help either.

the next thing that apple needs is an original receipt, *** am i supposed to find that after buying the watch 6 mo ago..

this is such a stupid hassle to have.
