Tagging / Faces on Photos does not save

We have been doing two things with our photos:

a. tagging

b. linking to faces

We came back to the library today and nothing had saved - and so all the information appears to be lost.

Should we be saving each of these tags? Yet the tags had been working but have now disappeared.

We would appreciate some advice on this.
