Clarify what? You wanted to remove your device from Find My iPhone. Going to iCloud and removing it from there should remove it. It will not reset your phone, unless you chose something other than just deleting it from Find My iPhone.

YYour backup still exist with iCloud you will basically have to set up the phone as new you will get to a step were you have 4 options either set up as new phone, restore from iTunes, restore from iCloud, or set up later. f you need to restore for what ever reason before you send it back the easiest way is to set it up from the beginning so if your home screen says hello.
