iCloud storage issues. won't let me put more files on, even though it says i have 180GB available

Help!

Trying to clean files off my external hard drive and Mac, and put onto iCloud to free up some space. But, iCloud keeps saying it can not transfer files as there is not enough space. But when i check the info it says i still have over 180GB of storage space..... I only want to transfer 130GB onto iCloud. Why won't it let me???

does anyone else have this issue or has fixed this or have any advice for me. can't finish my projects for work until i free up space. super frustrating!

Cheers =)

Not sure if you are aware but iCloud is primarily designed for syncing data among devices and not as a cloud-only storage location. If you have iCloud Drive turned on in your Mac and you then attempt to move 130GB from an external drive to iCloud it will automatically also attempt to place that 130GB as a local copy on your Mac (use Finder Go menu > iCloud Drive to access the local copy).
